FRIENDS OF RICHMOND HILL LIBRARY READING SERIES PRESENTS: “GROWING LITERATURE ONE ROSE AT A TIME”

ImageDear Flowered Concrete friends,

Remember a few months ago in September when Alton and I held our last event, called “Drawing Realm Exhibit @ Kew Gardens Festival?” Well guess what that’s landed us?? Tired of guessing?? Well, most certainly a new event, that is. We are very proud to officially announce that on May 5th, 2014, we will be hosting our first official book reading  at the Queens Library at Richmond Hill! It’s actually kind of crazy how it all came about. It all started back on a warm autumn day, Sunday, September 22nd to be exact as Alton and I presented the works of Flowered Concrete while selling a huge chunk of his artwork at the outdoor festival. It was truly a fun experience as we got the chance to mingle with children, parents and avid book readers across all ages.

Now I don’t remember when exactly that it happened, but I remember stumbling upon the woman who would eventually help Alton and I secure our very first opportunity with presenting our material within a library. Her name was Deborah Emin, and she told us that she owned a publishing company of her own called Sullivan Street Press and that she would like to possibly invite Alton and I to her community center not too far off from where we were selling our material, so that we could talk about our company and what we do as independent publishers on a day to day operation. After taking my business card, a few months went by and I totally forgot about meeting Deborah at the Kew Gardens festival until I accidentally stumbled across her e-mail in the Flowered Concrete mailbox. After stumbling upon it, I wasted no time in replying. It turned out that Deborah had e-mailed me the day after the event and wanted to know whether I could possibly do a book reading at the library within her community of Richmond Hill. Without thinking twice, I jumped on the chance and seized the opportunity.

Therefore, to bring you up to speed, after since having a meeting where I sat down with Deborah Emin, Vice President of Friends of Richmond Hill Library & Rebecca Alibatya, the Library Manager at Richmond Hill Library, Alton and I have been hard at work devising and constructing a plan for the entire event. We want it not only to be fun, but to be an experience that all can relate to and will appreciate at a max capacity. As of yesterday, Alton and I conducted our first rehearsal as well as a promo video shoot, in order to promote ourselves for what is to come. As the day gets nearer, we will keep you all at home posted with what we’ll have in store and we will also reveal more and more things bit by bit as the big day comes. Be sure to read my next blog post at the end of the month in order to see the progression in prepping for Flowered Concrete’s May 5th reading event, “GROWING LITERATURE ONE ROSE AT A TIME”

P.S. Also, be sure to subscribe to our newly registered Youtube channel (Flowered Concrete) if you haven’t already. There, you will be able to catch all of our videos, trailers and clips that we’ll have for the publishing company and its projects as well as what we’ll be doing in the New York City area down the line.
