Dear fans and friends of Flowered Concrete,

The countdown has well past begun as we are now officially five days away from our “Growing Literature One Rose At a Time” event which will take place on Monday, May 5th, 2014 at the Richmond branch of the Queens Library in Queens, New York. We are most certainly excited about the event and are elated to know that we will be sharing our talents as well as our material with the adolescents of the Richmond Hill community. We’re truly hoping that everyone who comes to enjoy the show has a great time with what we plan on displaying and that they leave feeling refreshed, thoughtful, entertained, and educated with what we have in store.

Yesterday, at the library, Alton, Joshua Walker, (host of the event and CEO/Founder of Avenue Music Group, LLC) and I were hard at work putting our heads together and constantly thinking of different ways to conduct our presentations. We were also able to get down the structure and overall foundation of the event itself. As we move forward, we hope to have our guest artists/talents offer another dimension to the book readings that Alton and I plan on reading to the general public. We’ve certainly been hard at work in terms of prepping for this event as we have printed three different types of flyers and promoted as hard as we’ve been able to. Last week, I met with Alord, the secretary of Friends of Richmond Hill and we visited the local community Key Food to post up some flyers, as well as the central Queens Library in Jamaica on Merrick Boulevard as we visited the teen center and promoted the event within the library’s teen center to a favorable amount of teenagers.

To wrap up our preparations for May 5th, Flowered Concrete as well as Joshua Walker, were fortunate enough to sit down with Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska, a reporter/producer of DNA.info NEW YORK, an online news publication that informs the consumer on everything regarding New York City lifestyle, news, politics, entertainment, culture, etc. Ms. Kern-Jedrychowska was very interested as far as what we had to say and got the full scoop on Flowered Concrete, such as how we got started, what we plan to display during next week’s event, what programs or events would we possibly offer the community, details of our books, and a plethora of many things that deal with literature and what initially inspired us to start writing. After our sit-down interview with her, we snapped some photos that would also be apart of our featured story. It was certainly a tremendous experience to not only sit-down and chat with her about the literary brand, but to also be potentially exposed to millions of people as we ultimately try to do good and give back to our communities.

Lastly, if there is one word that I would use to fully depict what is to be expected next week at Flowered Concrete’s event, I would say that word is “explosion” I honestly think that Flowered Concrete will shock the library as well as the guests that will be in attendance at the event next Monday evening. We’re hoping that the adolescents will see that what we’ve ultimately decided to invest our lives in is something really cool, and hopefully it will inspire them to find a passion and become great at whatever it is that they will ultimately choose. A forthcoming blog post with pictures, videos, and results of the event will be posted on Tuesday, May 13th.
